I made eighty-two league appearances for Bury during my three seasons with them. It proved to be a great grounding and Bury was such a friendly club. Bob Stokoe was the manager when I joined them, though Bert Head was in charge by the time I left three years later. Bob was a lovely person and a very good manager. He didn't have any money to spend on new players, so he spent his time working with the players he had. That worked out fine, because it meant there was no pressure on me and he was able to give me advice and help me continue to develop my skills and become more mature.

The great Tom Finney didn't play against Colin, his time as a player had long since ended, but as a journalist he watched him play on many occasions. 'I was actually with the News of the World when I was watching him at City. He played many, many outstanding games.
