From this sample 1,308 registered trademarks were identified as being in use. Up to 87% of franchise networks sampled used registered trademarks. The franchisor was the sole owner of its registered trademarks in 26% of networks and one of the owners in 29% of networks. In 3% of cases, there was more than one owner of individual trademarks.
