Although we teach researchers who come from many countries around the world and who bring with them various indigenous traditions 20 Teaching Research Methods in the Social Sciences of inquiry, we have had no formal preparation for teaching research to students from non-Western cultures. Our classrooms include scholars who conduct their research and analysis in languages other than English, languages we neither speak nor read.

Nowadays, these topics represent the four pillars of contemporary research methods in psychology. Chapter 8 of the present volume (by Donna McAuliffe) supports the importance of research ethics to the contemporary teaching of research methods. Second, another recent trend is for psychology departments to implement year long courses that replace the former sequence of separate statistics and research methods courses.
