Ouch, that stung. But Week 2 does get better. In fact, during this week, there will be at least one day that you will actually get more than four hours of sleep, in a row. The panicky parenthood slows down a bit, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to slack off. You actually have a lot of catching up to do. This is not in terms of cooking, cleaning or other mundane housekeeping duties that you’ve ignored in lieu of diaper duty; this is in regard to connecting. Your wife has had a connection with your baby for ten months; you haven’t even reached ten days.

No hand: Whoever has the upper hand in the relationship also controls the extracurricular activities, and—trust me—you won’t have it. No interest: Parenthood has made you lazy, and going to a gym is likely the furthest thing from your mind, well—a close second, to sex. This is not one of the happiest times of parenthood, but there is no denying the reality of it. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but life is not all sunshine and rainbows. There are going to be some days, weeks and months where you might question what you’ve gotten yourself into.
